Dolphin Ward Floyd

(1804-1836)

Dolphin Floyd was the son of Thomas Penuel and Mary B. Floyd. He married Ester B. House in 1832 in Gonzales. Floyd joined the Gonzales relief force and went to the Alamo with them on March 1, 1836. March 6 was Floyd’s 32nd birthday, with him dying in the final siege. Floyd County is named in his honor.
