Mial Scurlock

(1809-1836)

Born in North Carolina, Mial was the son of Joseph and Martha Scurlock. He lived in Tennessee and then Mississippi for awhile. In 1834, he and his brother William along with their slaves came to San Augustine. Mial volunteered for service in the Texas army in October, 1835 and took part in the Grass Fight and the battles of Concepcion and Bexar. Scurlock lost his life in the final siege of the Alamo.
